Do you know, The Malaysian Government declared the National Library of Malaysia – Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia (PNM) as the Malay Manuscript Center in 1983.
In 1985, the Malay Manuscript Center was officially established as one of the divisions in PNM and in 2014 the center was known as the National Center for Malay Manuscripts and is responsible for managing the acquisition, services, promotion, conservation, and preservation of Malay manuscripts.
The collection of Malay manuscripts available at PNM covers various subjects such as Literature (hikayat, syair, and nazam), Religious (fiqh, tauhid, tasawuf, tajwid), Medicine, Law and Constitution, Azimat and Petua (premonition and dreams) and others. To date, there are more than 5,000 copies of the original Malay manuscripts and some of them can be accessed digitally.
As a prelude to the Islamic Manuscript Exhibition that will be held in September 2022, we would like to highlight some digital collections of Islamic/Malay manuscripts available at PNM by click here:
